A celebration of Theatre of Floyd

Awesome review from Rob who came to our rehearsal show a couple of weeks ago.

Theatre of Floyd 31 May 2024.

“I was honoured to be invited to a rehearsal of a new Pink Floyd tribute band, Theatre of Floyd.

If that was a rehearsal, then I really can’t wait for their fist performance! This band is a serious tribute to (in my opinion) one of the greatest progressive rock groups.

The saxophonists weren’t available for this rehearsal, so the set list was chosen with that in mind. The planned video projections (hence “Theatre” in the band name) were also not available, but that just allowed us to concentrate on the quality of the musicians and the music – and boy was it good!

Most of this rehearsal was drawn from “Another Brick in the Wall”, with the guys playing 8 tracks from this iconic album. The theatrical opening number “In the flesh” gave us a taste of what was to come. Lead singer Paul drew on his years of experience to provide the energy and theatrical presence that only a natural front man can.

What a fantastic start, with the audience whooping and hollering for more. The opener was quickly followed by another five tracks from the same album, from the rocky “Another brick in the wall” to the melodic and haunting “Mother” and “Hey You”. All delivered with the same professionalism and tightness that belayed the fact that this was “only a rehearsal” The final track of the first half was taken from “Animals” and showed the delicate touch of “Keys Ben” on keyboard.

The second half started melodiously with a mixture of expected classics taken from “Dark Side of the Moon” and “Wish you were Here”. Sandwiched in between was “Coming Back to Life” from “The Division Bell”. Not easy tracks to replicate, but drummer Simon and bassist Ady kept timings incredibly tight allowing guitarists Toby, Simon and Ben the freedom to display their obvious talents. The night was closed out by two final tracks from “Another Brick in the Wall”. The bands talents really came to the fore though on the amazing “Comfortably Numb”. Toby on lead guitar making it look and sound so easy, but when you see the dexterity in his fingers you can only watch in wonder.

Overall the way that the members of the band gel so well together, from the solid foundation of Simon’s drums (who embellishes some of Nick Mason’s playing superbly) complimented by the bedrock of Toby’s bass guitar, through the delicate touch of Keys Ben, the glorious synchronisation of Simon’s and Ben’s electric, acoustic and slider guitars with Toby’s ingenious lead, when coupled with the harmonious voices of Paul and Simon, then the recreation of Floyds most difficult music is complete.

Move over the other tribute bands. Roll on the launch date for Theatre of Floyd.” Rob Walker

Thank you Rob! Looking forward to bring Theatre of Floyd show to you all soon!
